$1,500 Bicycle Stolen Outside Yishun Flat on CCTV
A resident in Yishun was left shocked after discovering that his bicycle, valued at around $1,500, had allegedly been stolen from outside his home. The theft was captured on CCTV footage and later shared online, showing how the suspect appeared to plan the crime over several hours.
The bicycle owner posted the video on Instagram on Wednesday (March 11), revealing clips recorded by surveillance cameras installed in the residential corridor. According to the timestamps shown in the footage, the incident began the evening before the theft actually occurred.
The first clip, recorded at around 7.22pm on Tuesday (March 10), shows a man wearing a cap and a black long-sleeved T-shirt exiting a lift and walking slowly along the corridor. The footage shows the man appearing to examine several bicycles parked along the side of the corridor before leaving the area shortly afterward.
Several hours later, another frame captured at approximately 2.06am on Wednesday shows a man dressed in a black hoodie approaching the same location. In the video, the suspect appears to cut through the bicycle lock before taking the bike and leaving the scene.
The bicycle owner believes the individual seen in the early evening footage and the person who later stole the bicycle are the same individual.
According to the post, the incident occurred at the Melody Spring estate in Yishun. The theft reportedly took place along the third-floor corridor where residents commonly park their bicycles outside their flats.
The case was also reported by the Singapore-based news platform Mothership, which highlighted the timeline of the incident and the CCTV footage shared online.
Following the report, the victim contacted the authorities. The Singapore Police Force confirmed that a police report has been lodged and that investigations are currently ongoing.
Bicycle theft is not uncommon in residential areas, especially when bikes are parked in shared corridors or open spaces. Despite using locks, thieves may still target high-value bicycles if they believe they can remove them without being detected.
Security experts often advise bicycle owners to use stronger anti-theft measures such as heavy-duty locks, installing additional security devices, or parking bicycles in areas covered by surveillance cameras. Some residents also choose to bring expensive bicycles indoors when possible.
The viral CCTV clip has drawn attention online, with many social media users discussing the importance of neighbourhood vigilance and stronger security measures in residential estates.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect as investigations continue. Residents in the area are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
