Russian DJ Arrested in Koh Phangan Drug Raid by Tourist Police
Tourist Police in Koh Phangan Arrest Russian DJ in Major Drug Case
KOH PHANGAN – In a significant operation targeting drug distribution in Thailand’s nightlife scene, Tourist Police have arrested a 41-year-old Russian national identified as Mr. Anton. The suspect was apprehended after authorities discovered a substantial quantity of illegal drugs allegedly prepared for sale to tourists on the popular island.
The arrest follows a strict policy enforced by Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pueak-am, commander of the Tourist Police Bureau, aimed at cracking down on foreign criminal behavior that tarnishes Thailand’s tourism image.
According to the police report, the operation began when an informant alerted officers to a foreign man living near the “Bo Khaya” area, locally known as the garbage dump alley in Koh Phangan, Surat Thani. The tip-off indicated that the suspect was allegedly selling multiple types of narcotics to tourists and utilizing a red sedan with Phuket license plates to travel discreetly around the island.
Acting on this intelligence, officers set up surveillance and tracked the vehicle. Their patience paid off when they observed the red car leaving the alley at high speed. Officers noted that the vehicle swerved erratically, suggesting the driver might be impaired. They followed the car to Hua Thian Pier in Moo 1, Ban Tai Subdistrict.
At the pier, police detained the driver, identified as Mr. Anton. Officers reported that he admitted to using cocaine prior to driving. Following the detention, police searched his residence—a house with no formal address located in the same alley mentioned in the tip.
Drugs Found at the Home
The search of the property yielded a significant cache of narcotics that police believe were set aside for distribution. The seized items included:
- Cocaine: 109.06 grams and 6.63 grams
- Ketamine: 1.67 grams and 9.70 grams
- MDMA (ecstasy) in crystal form: 4.42 grams
- MDMA tablets: 5 pills
Tourist Police Say DJ Work Helped Him Reach Tourists
During interrogation, Mr. Anton reportedly confessed that he worked as a DJ at various entertainment venues on Koh Phangan. Investigators believe he leveraged this professional role to network with tourists and facilitate drug sales within the island’s vibrant party circles.
Perhaps the most startling revelation from the suspect was his description of the drug procurement method. He claimed he ordered his supply through the Telegram messaging app. According to his statement, an automated AI system would respond to his order, allowing him to select the drug type. He would then make a payment using a credit card, after which the system would send GPS coordinates. Following the instructions, he would travel to the location and dig up the drugs that had been buried at the site.

The Tourist Police have charged Mr. Anton with multiple serious offenses, including selling Category 2 narcotics (cocaine) and Category 1 narcotics (MDMA) for commercial distribution, selling a Category 2 psychotropic substance (ketamine) for trade, possessing Category 1 narcotics (ecstasy), and using Category 2 narcotics (cocaine).
Mr. Anton and the seized evidence have been transferred to Koh Phangan Police Station investigators for further legal proceedings.
Pol. Lt. Col. Winit Boonchit of the Tourist Police confirmed that this arrest is considered a major case for Koh Phangan. He noted a troubling trend where foreign suspects use legitimate jobs, such as DJ work, as a cover while engaging in drug sales to tourists, arranging meetups at various points around the island.
Authorities have stated they will continue expanding the investigation, including probing potential links to an AI-supported cross-border drug network.
